Birch Pastry Brush

Iris Hantverk

$ 12.00

A light, versatile, and straightforward brush for painting crusts with egg wash and biscuits with melted butter, or finishing cakes and fruit tarts with glaze or syrup. We also like using it to brush oil or marinade over vegetables as they are roasting. Available in two styles: a traditional brush or a an ergonomic angled brush.

Materials:  Crafted of oil treated birch and natural horsehair, which is known for its softness, strength, and elasticity.

Dimensions:  7.25" long

Care: We actually keep two of these on hand - one for dry use (sweeping excess flour from pastry or other doughs), one for wet use (egg washes, marinades, and the like). You can brush the dry-use brush clean and wash the wet-use brush by hand with mild dish soap and warm water. Hang them or stand them on the bristles to dry. Oil the handle from time to time if the wood starts to appear a bit dry. If you care for your brushes well, they will age beautifully.

Maker:  At Iris Hantverk, people with visual impairments have been making brushes using the time-honored techniques of traditional Swedish craftsmanship for more than a hundred years. We still draw every brush by hand and use natural materials almost exclusively. Backs and handles are made of birch, oak or beech. The bristles are made of various materials such as horsehair, goat hair Tampico fiber (from plants unique to the semi-desert areas of northern Mexico) and piassava (bass) fiber, depending on their use.
